Dr Jim Dufty

Jim graduated in Dentistry from the University of Leeds (BChD) in 1999, joining the Army and completing his Vocational Training in Northern Germany. He served a year as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2004, has run several military Dental Centres and has completed extensive postgraduate training, gaining:

  • MFGDP (UK) 2002
  • MFDS RCS (Eng) 2004
  • MCGI 2008
  • MClinDent (Prosthodontics) 2011
  • FInstLM 2012
  • MSc (Periodontology) 2013

After completing his Perio training at the Eastman Dental Institute, UCL, under Professor Nikos Donos, he led the periodontal service for the British Armed Forces. This has resulted in impressive and extensive experience in often challenging cases which has enabled Jim to provide care in all areas of periodontal surgery, including resective, regeneration and mucogingival techniques.

Jim takes referrals for perio and perio/ restorative patients and provides a full range of both non-surgical and surgical perio treatments. He is also involved with the placement of implants and the treatment of peri-implantitis. He has published internationally and was awarded the BDA Armed Forces Group Research Prize and the Royal Army Medical Corps Leishman Prize in 2016. He continues to be involved with dental postgraduate education, working with King’s College London’s Prosthodontic MClinDent and Aesthetic Dentistry MSc distance learning programmes in both teaching and advisory roles.

We welcome periodontal referrals for him to see. Where possible, his default position is to save and preserve the natural dentition. However, where this is not possible, periodontal treatment will be performed and your patient will be directed back to you for restorative treatment – unless a clear indication is given for us to give an implant option.
